Every Utah paycheck has several deductions before you get your take-home pay. Here's exactly what we calculate.
Utah State Tax (4.5%)
Utah uses a simple flat rate — everyone pays 4.5% regardless of income. Reduced from 4.55% by HB 106 in 2025. No city or county income taxes in Utah.
Federal Income Tax
Based on 2025 IRS tax brackets (10%–37%). Your effective rate depends on your filing status (single, married, or head of household) and income.
Social Security (6.2%)
Employees pay 6.2% on wages up to the 2025 wage base of $176,100. Wages above this cap are not subject to Social Security tax.
Medicare (1.45%)
All wages are subject to the 1.45% Medicare tax with no cap. High earners (over $200,000) pay an additional 0.9% Medicare surtax.
Pre-Tax Deductions
Contributions to 401(k), health insurance premiums, and HSA accounts reduce your taxable income — lowering both federal and Utah state tax.
Net Take-Home Pay
What's left after all deductions is your take-home pay. We show it broken down by paycheck period — weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly.
